Taranaki DHB top cervical screening performer nationwide

Taranaki was the top performing DHB nationwide with the latest cervical screening results for Māori women aged between 25-69 years, reaching 73.2% in the 2017 Quarter 4 period. This represents the hard work and dedication of our Cervical Screening team who have strived to meet Ministry of Health priority targets. We acknowledge the strategic focus the team have demonstrated to eliminate health inequalities and thank them for working together to improve results over the last 12 months.

Close engagement with other health providers including Ngati Ruanui, Tui Ora and Nga Ruahine has proven to be a successful collaboration of networks being maximised in order to get more people screened. Congratulations to everyone involved in these encouraging results. We need to screen 300 more Māori women to reach the national target of 80.0% in Taranaki, while the gap between Māori and non-Māori rates is still 9%.  With continued hard work and effort together we can accomplish the target and eliminate the disparity.
